rainy dayz

December 22, 2019 Hello blog! The second happy day of vacation. It's raining and I'm very happy. In rain's honor, I am going to talk about the negative connotation associated with rain. Because of the media, rain is considered bad or unhappy. If you watch almost any movie, you can choose a sad scene in it and it will be raining. I have always found this a bit weird especially because I always get so happy when I see rain. I just think it's very interesting that rain has been associated with sadness. It feels so good to just go stand in the rain and it smells so good so I really don't know why someone would associate it with being sad. You could name almost any movie or TV show and it would have at least one sad rain scene. Some say that the color of the sky when it rains turns grey, which is associated with sadness, but I think that there was probably one movie that originally used it and then rain got associated with sadness in film. I think its interesting that so

December 18, 2019 Wazzup blog? Christmas is right around the corner and to be honest, I'm not in the spirit. This year has so much less cheer and fun than years past and I am blaming the ads on TV. All of the ads I've seen for Christmas so far are all about getting people presents and savings and deals. What happened to the true Christmas Spirit? (shut up Linus) Since when is our society so shallow and annoying that we have less ads about the spirit of Christmas and surprising Grandma when she thought no one was coming to her house, which are annoying until you see an ad about the great savings we can get at a store for little Becky. Let me tell you, little Becky is always really spoiled. Ads show parents buying their children a doll or some toys and the latest IPad and a stuffed animal. Parents should not get the same kid an Elsa doll AND an IPad and not realize what's wrong with that synario. Anyways, Christmas ads suck this year and I am EXTREMELY (yes in all caps)

December 15, 2019 Hello there, welcome to my bog. Today I will be talking about M&Ms. M&Ms have a series of commercials as well as fun branding. I think it's really interesting that the mascot of a product could be the product itself. Doesn't that seem kind of weird. The M&Ms are trying to get you to eat them. You'd think that would not be a great marketing strategy, but somehow it seems to work. When I see the mascots I don't want to eat the mascot, but I do really want other M&Ms. I just think its really interesting that that marketing strategy would work so well and pull in so customers. The little M&Ms that talk are also kind of creepy if you ask me. It's weird to see an M&M with arms talking. They have the voices of creepy villains from a Disney movie and it's very odd. They also are constantly angry with each other which again is a weird thing to associate your brand with. They have another commercial where the two M&Ms are i

December 11, 2019 Hello world. So we have been doing this assignment for 3 or 4 weeks now, and I don't think I'll ever be able to see ads the same way. I was watching TV and an ad came on for a cars. Instead of just watching the commercial or going on my phone, I watched the whole ad and noticed that they were using magic words like "the fastest" and "the most innovated". I was on Instagram the next day and an ad for Glossier came up. Instead of just scrolling past, I watched the whole video and noticed that they were attempting to appeal to aesthetics with all of their pink and sparkly products. I no longer see an ad, I suddenly see the ways a brand is trying to get my attention and who they think I am based on the ads that pop up for me. I order the books we need for HISP on Amazon on my phone, and all of a sudden they assume I like reading and send me ads for different books and audio-book subscriptions. It's just interesting to see what types of a

December 8, 2019 Hello! Welcome to my fifth ever post on megan's media rants!! :) Today I will be talking about a commercial I saw on TV. It was an ad for Peloton that my brother had said caused a whole bunch of controvercity. It had a woman go through a year with a Peloton bike, and the controversy was apparently over the fact that she was already super thin. People said that it was offensive and rude for the husband to give a bike to make her get in shape if she's already in shape. When I watched the commercial I really didn't see the problem. It wasn't offencive to me and I was trying to look for the issue in it. I know that people who work out usually like getting gifts like that for Christmas, so I just interpreted it that way. To be honest when I first watched the commercial I thought the contorvercity was going to be over the gross portrait mode of filming so there were two black bars on either side but I guess I'm the only one with a problem about that. This

December 3, 2019 Hello! Welcome to my fourth ever post on megan's media rants!! :)  Today I will be talking about the appeal to lowercase letters and simplistic advertisements. I was looking online at different types of advertisements and I realized that at least for me, ads that are simple and have lower case font are much more appealing than those advertisements that have a chaotic image. The simplicity of the ad makes it into much more appealing aesthetic than just another product.  If you look at another advertisement such as the G-Fuel one, you can see that it is chaotic and too bright. Personally this makes the product much less appealing than one with simple print and a mute color. This may just be because I don't like the bright colors, and it looks like that ad may give me a headache, but the McDonalds ad is more appealing to me than the G-Fuel ad. Another thing about the McDonalds ad is that it says "The world's most universal word." when referring

December 1, 2019 Hello! Welcome to my third ever post on megan's media rants!! :) Today I will be talking about the development of one of my favorite characters from a TV show, Sue Sylvester from Glee. At the begining of the series, Sue is rude and mean. While this doesn't change much throughout the seasons, we begin to see the reason behind her madness. All of the characters assume that she is plotting something evil whenever she does nice things. While they have reason to be suspicious, she sometimes does nice stuff because of her past. For example, Sue donates a lot of money to the school to install handicap ramps. She also lets a kid with down syndrome into her cheer team. Other characters think that she is plotting something evil, but it is revealed that she has a sister with down syndrome. I think that her character development was really cool because we see her be this harsh mean teacher, and then we see the reasoning behind it. I think her character was written lik
