November 29, 2019 Hello! Welcome to my second ever post on megan's media rants!! :) Today I will be talking about an experience with media that I saw yesterday. My phone was dead and I didn't want to get up to get the charger, so I was watching my mom surf the internet. She was on Google News when she came across an ad for Xfinity. She would have kept scrolling but the ad had ET in it. This caused her to stop and watch an entire 4-minute advertisement and start to cry. This ad did not have the same effect on me. I ended up getting up and getting my phone charger so I didn't have to watch weird ads with her anymore. This ad targeted Pathos or an emotional reaction in its audience. My mom's reaction was different than mine was because this ad was targeting people who grew up with the movie ET. In this ad, the kid that was in the movie is shown all grown up. This was supposed to target an emotional response in its viewers, causing them to purchase Xfinity. I interpreted

my relationship with media

November 11, 2019 Hello! Welcome to my first ever post on megan's media rants!! :) Today I will be talking about my personal interactions with media! Currently I spend about 5 hours a day on technology. This time could be spent watching a TV show, Youtube video, typing up an assignment, or reading a news article, it depends on the day. Most often, my interaction with media consists of Netflix. This is a negative relationship with media because I become distracted and stay up too late watching stupid TV sitcoms that will never help me, besides obtaining trivia knowledge. While media in this form can be very harmful, other types of media can be extremely beneficial. If you have a smartphone, you can now access news from all over the world at the touch of a screen. While media can be harmful, it can also be really fun and beneficial. I guess this would be an "It's complicated" relationship with media.
