January 4, 2020. Whoa, that is the first time I've ever wrote out 2020. But today I'll be discussing the song 'Don't you want me' by The Human League. So I was watching yet another episode of Glee and during alcohol awareness week, all of the students get ironically drunk. Two of the characters sing this song and I wanted to discuss the lyrics because they are kind of messed up. 
"You were working as a waitress in a cocktail bar When I met you I picked you out, I shook you up And turned you around Turned you into someone new Now five years later on you've got the world at your feet Success has been so easy for you But don't forget it's me who put you where you are now And I can put you back down too." 
The lyrics of the song are not only offensive but sexist towards women. The male part in this song is basically saying that he got the girl success and if she doesn't take him back then he'll put her back on the bottom. This is sexist by saying that it is because of him that she became successful. Luckly, the next verse comes back with the female part saying that she was going places even if she never met him and that they just don't work anymore. I am very thankful that the second verse defense the woman's side of what happened because the guy was being a jerk. This could be just another example of Hollywood showing the men as controlling and the women as helpless, but in this case the girl gets a chance to correct the story. This is an interesting topic to write a song about because it shows two sides of a story. Nevertheless, the song is really good and has a fun tune.

At the begining of the series, Sue is rude and mean. While this doesn't change much throughout the seasons, we begin to see the reason behind her madness. All of the characters assume that she is plotting something evil whenever she does nice things. While they have reason to be suspicious, she sometimes does nice stuff because of her past. my relationship with media

November 11, 2019 Hello! Welcome to my first ever post on megan's media rants!! :) Today I will be talking about my personal interactions with media! Currently I spend about 5 hours a day on technology. This time could be spent watching a TV show, Youtube video, typing up an assignment, or reading a news article, it depends on the day. Most often, my interaction with media consists of Netflix. This is a negative relationship with media because I become distracted and stay up too late watching stupid TV sitcoms that will never help me, besides obtaining trivia knowledge. While media in this form can be very harmful, other types of media can be extremely beneficial. If you have a smartphone, you can now access news from all over the world at the touch of a screen. While media can be harmful, it can also be really fun and beneficial. I guess this would be an "It's complicated" relationship with media.

January 15, 2020. Hey blog. The amount of media I consume impacts my life because if you consume too much media, it can be hard to escape it. There is a point where the amount of media you are consuming becomes unhealthy and it can cause you to become almost numb from real life events. I once had a friend who watched a lot of murder TV shows and once we were watching a news cast where 6 or 7 people were shot and it had a very small effect on her. Being aware of the techniques used by advertisers certainly changed my interaction with media. Over Christmas break, I was at a movie theater and I saw an ad for AT&T. Instead of ignoring it like I should, I recognized that it was targeting adults with children, because it focused so much about family values. I actually enjoy the commercial part of TV shows much more than the actual show, because I try and point out which techniques are being used and which audience is being targeted.
